This is part 2 in a series of songs and activities chosen to improve student accuracy and proficiency in talking about the present.
Hace tiempo – Fonseca
This song has wide student appeal. Regardless of taste, it’s one of my students’ all-time favorites. The video is great fun also.
Proficiency goals: talk about ongoing and daily activities, join simple sentences using ‘porque’
Irregular present:
tengo
puedo
estoy
digo
muero
es
quiero
siento
Vocabulary:
hace tiempo
se levanta/me levanto
corazón
rezo
lejos
no es tan fácil
Working with irregular present:
Grammar points: What’s different about words like puedo, muero, quiero, siento? How do they change if the subject is ‘nosotros’?
Using the phrase ‘hace tiempo que’ and common activity verbs like corro and juego, talk about what you have been doing for a long time.
Extension:
Change rezo to verbs that show emotion like lloro and me río. Use ‘porque’ and ‘cuando’ to talk about when you do these things.
Use puede, puedo and me levanto, se levanta to make a diagram of who can do what in your group, or who gets up at what time in your group. Compare orally to the group.
