#AuthresAugust: Blogging street signs in Madrid

Meet Marisa.  She’s a really smart Spanish teacher… at a language school in Madrid.  Her blog goes back several years, but it just came on my radar in the past year.  It’s called “Aprendiendo español callejeando por Madrid,” y de veras, es una joya.

Here in the first resource I’m sharing for #AuthresAugust I present to you an absolutely ingenious use of authentic language.  Marisa collects photos of language used around Madrid and posts them with easy-to-follow, detailed explanations of how they can help one learn Spanish.  The posts are written in Spanish and directly to the learner, which makes them extremely useful for any intermediate learner of Spanish, but many of the photos are great for novice learners as well.  Example: this recent one, in a reflection on ya. It begs to be the “hook” on the day you’re starting “Sé que te duele“:

Just think: how awesome would it be if more teachers (or anyone) in TL countries made blogs with simple photos of the great stuff they saw around their cities?  I had to go to Argentina to find these gems:

which says “hey, use me for 3rd person singular!”

And this one:

because not being able to read Spanish and getting too crazy with your spitting could land you in an Argentine jail.
