How did you get to be a proficient speaker of your second (or third, etc.) language?
I need your help. In just over two weeks (two weeks!) I’ll be giving one of the ImpACTFL Voice talks at the ACTFL Exposition & Convention. The topic is “Pathways to Proficiency.”
It’s no secret I love to talk about motivation, and my favorite author on that topic is Daniel Pink, who says that we require three ingredients to feel motivated to pursue something: autonomy, mastery, and purpose.
Here’s the thing: one of those in particular fairly defines the reason Spanish didn’t fall by the wayside in my life like so many other “hobbies,” like cross-stitching and walking on stilts and wedding planning. I’m wondering if that’s true for you, as well.
Would you take a minute to answer this one simple question for me? It will really help. All you need as a qualification is to be proficient in a language that is not your native language. THANK YOU.
