My friends, it’s that time again. Registration is now open for the Camp Musicuentos curriculum planning workshop and The Brave Little Tailor comprehensible input strategies workshop.
Camp Musicuentos is an intensive, 2-day workshop intended to help you plan your units for the coming year as far as possible in the amount of time given. I walk participants step-by-step through the process I’ve developed for unit planning over 12 years of teaching. We’ll discuss and implement strategies for choosing and sequencing units, designing proficiency-based assessments, identifying what students need to be successful on those assessments, and determining how those fit into daily lesson plans. You can expect to get ideas from colleagues teaching similar classes, access past and current participants’ unit plans, and of course, laugh through our now-legendary immersion dinner.
(Base)Camp Musicuentos – Louisville, Kentucky
Thursday and Friday, June 15 and 16
Join me in Louisville again this year for the original party, (Base)Camp Musicuentos. We’ll meet at the Hyatt Place Louisville East from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM each day. The cost for both days is $259 and includes registration, lunch, and snack/coffee breaks. Discounted lodging with breakfast buffet is available. This hotel has always carried out this event with so much hospitality.
Camp Musicuentos Northeast – Warwick, Rhode Island
Monday and Tuesday, July 10 and 11
I hope to have the second location of Camp Musicuentos back up and running in the Northeast this year at Warwick, Rhode Island. We’ll meet again at the lovely Hilton Garden Inn there from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM in a format very similar to (Base)Camp. Again, lunch and snacks are included, and discount lodging with hot breakfast is available.
Ready to register for Northeast?
And this Tailor thing?
I’ve completely changed the format of the Brave Little Tailor comprehensible input strategies workshop and I’m so excited to tell you about it.
First, it’s not one workshop, it’s four.
Each workshop is only $97 and will be held on a Saturday from 9:00-4:00 in Louisville, Kentucky. And each workshop is limited to only four participants. To really get time to delve into strategies and put them into practice, we need it small. I’m so pleased to have worked out a host situation that allows me to offer this workshop in such an intimate setting at such an affordable price. Lunch is not included.
At the Brave Little (Storytelling) Tailor on July 29, 2017, we’ll work on tailoring our storytelling skills for our personalities and our student populations, while keeping things engaging and comprehensible.
At the Brave Little (Music-Loving) Tailor on August 26, 2017, we’ll work on choosing and leveraging authentic pop music in the target language for student engagement and acquisition.
At the Brave Little (#Authres) Tailor on September 23, 2017, let’s try out using authentic resources as our comprehensible input, because there is so much out there, and it offers language and culture I’d never come up with on my own (or find in a textbook). Focus will be on infographics and social media.
Last one: at the Brave Little (Internauta) Tailor on October 28, 2017, participants will investigate and plan ways to use other target-language websites as comprehensible input in the classroom.
To register for any of these, see below. (And if you don’t know why I keep talking about a Brave Tailor, or why Jeffrey has a plume hat and scissors… you’re welcome.) To register for more than one, you’ll need to fill out the form multiple times.
Where will I see you this year? If I don’t get to meet you at one of these workshops soon, I hope to meet you at one of the conferences I’ll be attending this year: Central States in Chicago, FLANC in North Carolina, and ACTFL in Nashville.
